Current Challenges in the Recognition, Prevention and Treatment of Perioperative Pulmonary Atelectasis

Post-operative pulmonary complications (PPCs) are associated with increased cost and poor outcomes. Atelectasis contributes significantly to PPCs in the acute care setting.  Effective interventions may help decrease the incidence and cost burden. This review article reviews challenges encountered in the recognition, prevention, and management of perioperative atelectasis.
